Corbin Albany Door Plate
Cast iron door plate with a matte gray finish. Made by Corbin. Albany design. I believe this is a wartime version made of cast iron instead of the brass, as listed in the catalogue. Cir. 1940’s. The door plate measures 7 1/2″h x 2 1/2″w. The cup area for the doorknob is unusually deep, measuring 3/4″ inside diameter x 3/4″h. Most doorknobs should still fit within, but the set screw may be covered. It is shaped at the top and bottom, almost mission style, particularly in the cast iron. The door plate is marked on the back 76431 which corresponds to the catalogue number. Very small areas of rust, but overall very good condition.

Corbin
P&F Corbin was founded by brothers Philip and Frank Corbin in New Britain, CT. in 1851. Interestingly, Philip previously worked for the company that would become Russell and Erwin, which Corbin would merge with in 1902. It ran with a number of subsidiary companies in the 1900’s including Corbin Cabinet Lock Co., Corbin Screw Company and even a Corbin Motor Vehicle Corporation! Corbin is still in business today under ownership of Assa Abloy under the name Corbin Russwin.
