Corbin Paper Slot
Cast iron mail/newspaper slot cover made by Corbin. It was originally brass plated, but a fair amount of the plating has worn off. Cir. 1905. The inside door is marked PAPERS on a textured background. The full cover measures 10 1/2″l x 4″h. with an inset area for the door measuriring 7 1/2″l x 2 1/4″h. It swings on a bar to open and close. There is a spring that may have a longer end missing, as it does not seem to connect in any functional way. The presence of the spring seems unnecessary, as the weight of the door will close it without a spring. The cover attaches through the door with two screws (not included). It has attachment screw holes at a center to center distance of 8 3/8″.
This Corbin Paper Slot is an antique item and may show wear due to age. This may include scratches, pitting, patina, finish loss, rust or other general wear. We attempt to include any significant damage beyond regular wear within the description. We make every effort to clean as much paint, dirt and rust off of items while still leaving as much of the original patina as possible. Photos shown are of actual item you will receive.

Corbin
P&F Corbin was founded by brothers Philip and Frank Corbin in New Britain, CT. in 1851. Interestingly, Philip previously worked for the company that would become Russell and Erwin, which Corbin would merge with in 1902. It ran with a number of subsidiary companies in the 1900’s including Corbin Cabinet Lock Co., Corbin Screw Company and even a Corbin Motor Vehicle Corporation! Corbin is still in business today under ownership of Assa Abloy under the name Corbin Russwin.
