Corbin Princess Door Plate (Door Plate 14)

Oval door face plate with bead design. Made of wrought Steel. “Princess” design by P. F. Corbin. Cir. 1905. The door plate measures 7″ h x 2 1/2″w. It features a beaded border all the way around. This was a typical “step up”, but still affordable door plate for those looking for something a little fancier than basic. Most manufacturers made a version of this design in both wrought and cast metals.

Corbin

P&F Corbin was founded by brothers Philip and Frank Corbin in New Britain, CT. in 1851. Interestingly, Philip previously worked for the company that would become Russell and Erwin, which Corbin would merge with in 1902. It ran with a number of subsidiary companies in the 1900’s including Corbin Cabinet Lock Co., Corbin Screw Company and even a Corbin Motor Vehicle Corporation! Corbin is still in business today under ownership of Assa Abloy under the name Corbin Russwin.
