Chantrell Dale Face Plate

Antique door face plate. Made of wrought steel with a brassy finish. “Dale” Design by Chantrell Hardware. Cir. 1909.It features shaped corners and an oval border.

Scratching/finish loss over most of the surface. Some could be polished up, some is finish loss.

The Chantrell Hardware and Tool Company (Inc.)

Established in 1888, was named after John Chantrell, an English inventor known for designing innovative tools. Initially located on Seventh Street near Chestnut, the company later expanded and relocated to Millmont, where larger brick facilities were built to accommodate growing demand. Specializing in builders’ hardware, including locks and decorative goods, the company also manufactures screwdrivers, nail pullers, and various hardware specialties. With a robust domestic and international customer base, Chantrell Hardware employed 165 workers and thrived under the leadership of Harry C. Shaaber, who became manager in 1903.
