Mallory Wheeler Arabic Door Plate

Cast bronze door plate made by Mallory Wheeler. Arabic design. Cir. 1890. The plate features stylized arabic script at the top and center with a dense swirled background.  The door plate measures 5 1/4″h x 1 3/4″w. It is marked on the back M.W. Co, 44 08.

The door plate has been highly polished on the front.

Mallory Wheeler

Mallory Wheeler began in 1834 in New Haven Conn. Under the name Pierpont & Hotchkiss. In 1866 the name changed to Davenport, Mallory & Co., then in 1868 it became Mallory, Wheeler & Co. under John Davenport Wheeler. They made high quality, quite ornate hardware and won a number of awards for their designs. Sargent was a distributor for the Mallory Wheeler Company up until about 1882. The company closed due to bancruptcy in 1913.
