Reading Clifton Door Plate
Decorative door face plate made by Reading. Clifton design. Cir. 1899. The door plate is made of wrought steel with a jappanned copper finish. It has rounded corners and features floral and geometric decoration around the edges. This is a slightly oversized version of this plate, measuring 7 1/2h” x 2 1/4″w. The center to center distance between the doorknob and keyhole is the fairly standard 2 1/2″ even through the plate is a bit larger.
There are a few small areas of rust, but the plate is in overall good condition.

Reading Hardware began in 1872 in Reading, Pennsylvania. It produced both basic and highly decorative builders hardware. Reading’s hardware was used in many notable buildings including the White House in Washington, D.C. The operation closed in 1950.
