Reading Montello Door Plate

Decorative door face plate made by Reading. Cir. 1895-1911. It is made of wrought bronze. This design was also offered in a wrought steel version. The door plate features dense Eastlake style decoration with leaf motifs and a textured japanned background. The door plate measures 5 1/2″h x 1 3/4″w. It is in excellent condition with a nice even patina.

Reading

Reading Hardware began in 1872 in Reading, Pennsylvania. It produced both basic and highly decorative builders hardware. Reading’s hardware was used in many notable buildings including the White House in Washington, D.C. The operation closed in 1950.
