Reading Nouvelle Door Plate

Art nouveau style door plate made of wrought steel with a japanned/oiled copper finish.  Made by Reading Hardware. Cir. 1910. The door plate is shaped with an amorphous design. This is Reading’s version of the popular Alby design. The door plate measures 8 1/2″l x 2 7/8″w.

Some wear and small areas of rust.

Reading

Reading Hardware began in 1872 in Reading, Pennsylvania. It produced both basic and highly decorative builders hardware. Reading’s hardware was used in many notable buildings including the White House in Washington, D.C. The operation closed in 1950.
