Russell & Erwin 855 Rim Lock
External mount/rim lock with bronze accents made by Russell and Erwin. Cir. 1877. Vertical mount style with doorknob hole and keyhole in alignment. 2 3/8″ backset. The box measures 4″h x 3 1/4″w. It is marked RE Co. USA on the outside and 855 on the inside. The distance between the keyhole and doorknob hole is 2 3/4″, a little longer than a typical interior door plate. The lock has an additional security lock slide deadbolt feature that functions on the mounted side. The lock box is reversable and can be used on either right open or left open doors. It does require flipping both the latch and doorknob part.
This lock box has a somewhat unique hole for the key, so we are including a functioning key with it.
All of our lock boxes are cleaned, oiled and fully tested for functionality. Please let us know if you need a strike plate when you purchase. We can usually find one that will work.
This Russell & Erwin 855 Rim Lock is an antique item and may show wear due to age. This may include scratches, pitting, patina, finish loss, rust or other general wear. We attempt to include any significant damage beyond regular wear within the description. We make every effort to clean as much paint, dirt and rust off of items while still leaving as much of the original patina as possible. Photos shown are of actual item you will receive.
This item is shippable.

Russell and Erwin / Russwin
Russell and Erwin Manufacturing was established in 1839 in New Britain, CT. under the name of Stanley, Russell & Company. The founders include Henry E. Russell, Cornelius B. Erwin and Frederick T. Stanley. Upon Stanley’s withdrawal just one year later, it became Matteson, Russell and Company to reflect a new partnership with Smith Matteson and John H. Bowen. Six years later, the company officially becomes Russell & Erwin. In 1851, it becomes Russell & Erwin Manufacturing Company. They merge with P. & F. Corbin in 1902, but continue to produce under the Russell and Erwin name. American Hardware and Russwin were also brand names used off and on in conjunction with the Russell and Erwin name. By 1964, the division again separated and was purchased by Emhart Manufacturing under the name Russwin. It continues today under the name Corbin Russwin, owned by Assa Abloy.
