Russwin Clermont Pocket Door Plate Pair

A pair of wrought steel flush mount pocket door plates. “Clermont” design by Russwin/ Russell and Erwin. Cir. 1909. They have a coppery finish.  Each plate measures 7 5/8″h x 2 1/4″w.  The inset area that would need to be cut out of the door measures 3 1/2″h x 1 1/2″w. Each plate has a keyhole cutout in the middle. There is some rust residue/finish loss.

Russell and Erwin / Russwin

Russell and Erwin Manufacturing was established in 1839 in New Britain, CT. under the name of Stanley, Russell & Company. The founders include Henry E. Russell, Cornelius B. Erwin and Frederick T. Stanley. Upon Stanley’s withdrawal just one year later, it became Matteson, Russell and Company to reflect a new partnership with Smith Matteson and John H. Bowen. Six years later, the company officially becomes Russell & Erwin. In 1851, it becomes Russell & Erwin Manufacturing Company. They merge with P. & F. Corbin in 1902, but continue to produce under the Russell and Erwin name. American Hardware and Russwin were also brand names used off and on in conjunction with the Russell and Erwin name. By 1964, the division again separated and was purchased by Emhart Manufacturing under the name Russwin. It continues today under the name Corbin Russwin, owned by Assa Abloy.
