Sargent Hatfield Exterior Face Plate

Oversized exterior door plate.  “Hatfield” design by Sargent & Co. Cir 1922-1927. The plate is made of wrought steel with a dark rust colored patina over much of the surface. Some steel color is showing through. It measures 11″l x 3″w. The center to center distance between the doorknob hole and the keyhole is 3″.  It features rounded corners and stacked borders.

Sargent Manufacturing was founded in 1857 in New Britain, Ct. by brothers Joseph, George and Edward Sargent. In 1864 they moved to New Haven, CT. They were a distributor for the Mallory Wheeler Company up until about 1882. Sargent Lock continues today under the ownership of Assa Abloy.
