Description

WWII German Cockpit Clock

Antique German (Luftwaffe) chronographic cockpit clock made by Junghans for Messerschmidt Me Bf109 aircraft. These clocks were used to track flight time in WWII. It appears to be fully functional. The outside bezel rotates easily to set the arrow to takeoff time. The timer is activated by pushing down on the bottom oval button. After winding, the hand moves cleanly. Pushing the button a second time stops the timer and a third time resets to zero. Time is set by pulling the lever located on the bottom right down and simultaneously rotating the brass knob with the Junghans logo on it. Winding is done by rotating the brass Junghans knob.

The clock is in good condition with minor scratching on the face and back. There is some paint loss around the casing. It is marked 014811 on the back.

These clocks were considered quite valuable at the time and pilots were instructed to remove them along with their gunsight from the aircraft upon a crash or emergency landing.

This clock came from the estate of an American soldier who served in WWII.
